ANAMA participates in the International Mine Action Conference held in Tokyo
Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), is participating in the Ukraine Mine Action Conference (UMAC 2025), held in Tokyo, Japan, on October 22–23, 2025.
In total, about 400 delegates are attending the conference, including high-ranking officials from a number of countries, representatives of international organizations, and officials of mine action centers from various states. The conference began with the opening speech delivered by Toshimitsu Motegi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
During the first plenary session, Vugar Suleymanov delivered a speech in which he provided information on the scale of the existing landmine contamination in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, the consequences it has caused, as well as the current priorities and objectives for addressing this challenge. He emphasized that the threat of landmines knows no borders and that the landmine problem remains one of the most serious humanitarian issues on a global scale.
Officials from various countries, as well as representatives of international organizations, took part in the panel sessions of the conference. The sessions featured discussions on capacity building in mine action, the role of digitalization, technological innovations, and other relevant topics.
Within the framework of the conference, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU).
The signing ceremony took place between Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of ANAMA, and Roman Prymush, Deputy Head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
The Memorandum of Understanding titled “To conduct trainings in the Republic of Azerbaijan on humanitarian demining” provides for the organization of relevant training sessions in Azerbaijan by ANAMA for humanitarian demining experts of SESU.
