A MON-50 directional fragmentation booby-trap mine was discovered in the Khojavend district.

The Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) reports that a MON-50 Armenian-made anti-personnel mine was discovered during humanitarian demining operations in the village of Tagaverd, Khojavend district.

The Armenian-manufactured MON-50 type anti-personnel mine, installed on a tree and discovered during operations in a rugged, forested area with dense vegetation, belongs to the category of directional fragmentation mines. Its fragments have a destructive range of 45–55 meters. When triggered, the mine disperses 400–550 cylindrical steel fragments, each about 1 cm in size, at high velocity. During the operation, it was also determined that the mine was connected to another mine by a tripwire.

Anti-personnel mines are designed to injure or kill individuals, while MON-50 fragmentation mines are specifically intended to cause mass casualties.

The explosive device, deemed too dangerous to transport, was neutralized on-site by ANAMA specialists using an electrical detonation method in accordance with International Mine Action Standards (IMAS), ensuring the safety of the area.
