Landmine Incident in Gazakh District

The Press Services of the General Prosecutor's Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) report that a landmine incident occurred on October 14, 2024, in the Gushchu Ayrim village of Gazakh district.


A local resident, Ilkin Sariyev, born in 2001, stepped on an anti-personnel mine while grazing animals in an area that had not been cleared of mines.


As a result of the incident, Ilkin Sariyev sustained injuries to his right leg. He was immediately transported to the regional hospital, where his condition is reported as stable.


At present, the prosecutor's office is examining the scene, and other necessary procedural steps are being carried out. An investigation has been initiated by the Gazakh district prosecutor's office.


ANAMA, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the General Prosecutor's Office once again urge citizens to strictly adhere to safety rules, pay attention to mine danger signs, and avoid entering unfamiliar or potentially hazardous areas.
