Mr. Nazim Ismayilov was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 1944 and graduated from the Polytechnic Institute. As a civil engineer, he began his career working in various government agencies including the Ministry of Industry and served as the first deputy chairman of the Industrial and Construction Company. Ismayilov was also an adviser to the International Academy of Engineering. He was awarded with “Tereggi (Progress)” medal, “Shohrat” Order (Order of Glory) and “Honorary Engineer” title for his valuable and successful activities.

Ismayilov long served as ANAMA director, a position he began three years after the organization was founded in 1998. Under his leadership, ANAMA developed into one of the top humanitarian demining agencies in the world. He had a strong vision for ANAMA as a professional, effective and creative organization ever willing to collaborate with other organizations to advance the eradication of landmines and unexploded ordnance as a threat to civilians’ lives and well-being. According to Mr. Ismayilov’s strategic goals ANAMA has all the basic instruments of humanitarian demining: deminers, mine detection dogs, mine detection machines, regional bases, training centers, Training, Survey and Quality Assurance Division and Emergency Response Team. ANAMA also have expertise in areas such as the Mine Risk Education and Victim Assistance, and successfully carries out projects in these two areas.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Nazim Ismayilov as he is not with us since a year. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. His memory will always be in our hearts. Rest in Peace!
