April 4 as the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action was declared by the UN General Assembly and observed in 2006 for the first time. It calls for continued efforts by states, with the assistance of the United Nations and relevant organizations, to foster the establishment and development of national mine-action capacities in countries where mines and explosive remnants of war constitute a serious threat to the safety, health and lives of the civilian population, or an impediment to social and economic development at the national and local levels.

In order to commemorate April 4, Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action together with Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining organized Mine Action Field Seminar within the Eastern Europe Caucasus Central Asian Outreach Program (EECCA-OP) to take place in Azerbaijan from 04-08 April 2016.

Mine action/ammunition clerance program representatives from Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukrain and Uzbekistan, as well as the representatives of the organizations that are engaged in humanitarian mine action activities in the EECCA region such as ICRC, UNDP, OSCE and UNMAS will participate at the seminar.

The four-day seminar includes discussions on laws and standards in Baku and a two-day visit to the field. The seminar will offer an opportunity for the participants to understand legislation and norms adopted by countries in the region and to exchange views and experiences with ANAMA on all aspects of mine/ERW action program management and field operations, including risk education and victim assistance.

It must be mentioned that the conduction of Mine Action Field Seminar in Azerbaijan has been delivered and discussed during the speech by ANAMA Director Mr. Gazanfar Ahmadov at the Nineteenth International Meeting of National Mine Action Program Directors and United Nations Advisors held in Geneva, from 16-19 February 2016.
