An official Ceremony to mark the 20th Anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action “ANAMA” was held on 18th July 2018.
“Being held at Fairmont Baku Flame Towers Azerbaijan“ the Ceremony was attended by Mr. Fuad Alasgarov, the Assistant to the President for Work with Law Enforcement Bodies and the Military Issues, the head of department, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ghulam M. Isaczai, Chairman of National Commitee for Rehabilitation and Demining His Royal Highness Prince Mired Rad Zaid al Hossain of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Director of ANAMA Mr. Gazanfar Ahmadov, as well as the representatives of the Diplomatic Corps in Azerbaijan, the representatives of partnering International governmental and non-governmental organizations and state ministries.
Training materials of the TSQAD of ANAMA as well as the Mine Risk Education materials were demonstrated to the participants.
The Ceremony was launched by playing the National Anthem of Azerbaijan.
In his introductory speech, the Director of ANAMA Mr. Gazanfar Ahmadov has expressed his sincere gratitude to every attendant of the 20th Anniversary of ANAMA for their kind participation. Mr. Ahmadov has brought to attention that in line with war affected regions and the lines of contacts ANAMA also operates at different rural and urban regions of Azerbaijan reacting to both demining and emergency spot tasks. The Agency deals with both landmines as well as the problem of explosive remnants of war and abandoned ammunition left over and ranges of Soviet times. In its 20 years of Mine Action activities, 529, 314, 780 square meters of land was released by different methodologies, 796, 972 mines and UXO/ERWs were found and destroyed. Mr. Gazanfar Ahmadov expressed gratitude to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev and to the First Vice-President Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva for their care and support in sustainable and continuous development of Humanitarian Mine Action capacity in Azerbaijan during the past two decades as well as in the future.
The next speaker Mr. Fuad Alasgarov, the Assistant to the President for Work with Law Enforcement Bodies and the Military Issues, the head of department, passed on the Congratulations for his Excellency the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev for the 20th Anniversary of ANAMA. Mr. Alasgarov has highlighted that ever since its’ development, ANAMA with its’ fully professional teams has been fulfilling all the tasks and goals set against it under the State Development Agenda as well as improving its’ technical capacity up to the level of compliance with international standards.
UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ghulam M. Isaczai, on his turn has mentioned that if we look back at the initial stage of its’ establishment, we could see that UNDP Azerbaijan has been closely and actively cooperating with ANAMA. Today, the outcomes of such a successful cooperation between UNDP and ANAMA is reflected by the fully nationalized and fully equipped Humanitarian Mine Action Capacity of Azerbaijan, able to conduct Mine and ERW activities within the border of the Republic as well as providing a platform for offering Mine Action Solutions for affected states undergoing the initial stages of the development of their National Mine Action Capacities.
Chairman of National Committee for Rehabilitation and Demining His Royal Highness Prince Mired Rad Zaid al Hossain of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has expressed his pleasure to having another chance to see the Activities of ANAMA in the sphere of Humanitarian Mine Action Activities as well as being honored to participate at the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of ANAMA. “I wish you the best of success in your future activities and want you all to know that we are all in the same boat” by these words HRR Prince Mired has concluded his speech.
The Ceremony was concluded by the demonstration of a Documentary dedicated to the activities of ANAMA and the live imitation of how Mine Detection Dogs are indicating the dangerous materials.
