«MINE ACTION - THE PATH TO REACHING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS»

The 2nd International Conference on «MINE ACTION - THE PATH TO REACHING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS» which will be held in Baku and Aghdam, Azerbaijan, from 24 to 26 May 2023. The Conference is organized by the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) jointly with the United Nations (UN).

Mine action is crucial to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It facilitates post-conflict recovery and plays a key role in enabling longer-term sustainable development. Although great progress has been made, demining remains a major challenge for Azerbaijan as the country undertakes historic reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts in its conflict-affected territories.

Based on the discussions and outcomes of the 1st International Conference held in Azerbaijan in the spring of 2022, the 2023 Conference will further deepen the understanding of existing synergies between the SDGs and mine action and explore new partnerships and financing to accelerate the achievement of a mine-free world. It would also highlight the Government's ongoing efforts to advocate for a new SDG on mine action. This event would bring together a wide range of practitioners, policymakers and international organizations working on mine action, offering a strategic dialogue platform to discuss challenges and realities, as well as the vital role of mine action as a precursor to sustainable development and peace.
