ANAMA Holds Discussion on First Quarter 2023 Results

The Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan convened an extended meeting to discuss the outcomes of the first quarter 2023.

In his opening remarks at a meeting attended by executives of the Board, heads of the structural units, and operational staff of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairman Vugar Suleymanov emphasized that the restoration and reconstruction of liberated territories, as well as demining activities to facilitate the safe and sustainable settlement of former internally displaced persons (IDPs), were among the top priorities of the Azerbaijani state. Mr Suleymanov underscored the significance of demining operations conducted as part of the “Great Return” Programme in the recently liberated territories, emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring the safe return and resettlement of displaced communities.

During the first quarter of 2023, as part of the Agency's demining efforts, a total of 7,944 hectares of land were cleared, uncovering a staggering 3,878 mines and unexploded ordnance.

During the meeting, comprehensive reports were presented and discussed, covering the progress made in the field of demining during the reporting period. This included an overview of the tasks accomplished in various priority areas, the status of ongoing operations, the outcomes of monitoring and final quality inspections conducted to ensure compliance with International Mine Action Standards, as well as the work and future plans aimed at enhancing the capacity of the Agency.

The meeting concluded with the assignment of pertinent tasks focused on enhancing the efficiency of demining activities, addressing upcoming obligations, tackling challenges, and finding effective solutions to them.
