Landmine Incident Occurs at Entrance of Residential House in Lachin Region

The Press Service of the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) has reported that on April 13, 2023, a mine incident took place in the area of Sus village in Lachin district. The incident occurred in an area that had not been cleared of mines, resulting in one civilian being injured.

ANAMA's investigation into the landmine incident revealed that the incident occurred at the entrance of an abandoned residential house.

The use of mines and other explosive ammunition in territories that have no military importance by the Armenian side is seen as a deliberate contamination and is considered an act of mine terrorism.

It has been determined through continuous efforts in the liberated territories that civilian lands, destroyed settlements, cemeteries, gardens, areas surrounding water sources, and other locations of socio-economic importance are extensively contaminated with mines. In the aftermath of the war, out of the 290 people who were injured by mine explosions, 142 individuals have tragically lost their lives or sustained varying degrees of physical injuries due to explosions that occurred in these contaminated areas.

Taking into account such facts, ANAMA once again appeals to our citizens to use only safe route lines, not to deviate from the route, to carry out appropriate activities, to be vigilant and to behave responsibly in the areas where demining operations are carried out.

Considering these facts, ANAMA reiterates its appeal to citizens to use safe routes and avoid deviating from them, especially in areas where demining operations are ongoing. Citizens are also advised to remain vigilant and act responsibly to prevent further accidents related to mines and explosive ordnance.
