ANAMA Mine Detection Dog (MDD) Team handler Vahid Mammadov and his dog ESGIMO-Rocket has been selected by the Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI) of the United States of America as the winner of the 2018 - Mine Detection Dog Team of the Year Award competition for the incredible work in locating landmines and human life-saving.
Starting from 2014 ESGIMO-Rocket was working in different regions of Azerbaijan: Agcabadi, Aghdam, Terter, Fizuly, Goranboy, Aghstafa and Jabrayil regions, where searched more than 166 373 sq.m territory and indicated on dozens of anti-personnel, anti-tank mines.
On October 24, 2018 delegation (ESGIMO-Rocket including) headed by ANAMA Director Mr. Gazanfar Ahmadov participated at the 21th Anniversary “Clearing the Path” Gala held in Washington, USA.
The Gala night has been covered by WUSA 9 news channel reporter and famous TV journalist, Mrs. Andrea McCarren. The Deputy Director of the Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement in the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, Mr. Steven Kostner, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Stability and Humanitarian Affairs, Mr. Mark Swayne, US Senator Mr. Mike Enzi, the Mayor of Sarajevo city of Bosnia Herzegovina, Mr. Abdulah Skaka, the President of Marshall Legacy Institute, Mr. Perry Baltimor, the representatives of the Embassy of Azerbaijan to USA, US congressmen, ambassadors accredited in the United States, representatives of international organizations, as well as members of donor countries and organizations that provide financial assistance to the humanitarian mine action have participated at the “Clearing the Path” Gala event.
ANAMA has turned into a leading humanitarian mine action agency with a strong reputation in the country and abroad – was mentioned at the meeting.
ANAMA has been cooperating with the US Marshall Legacy Institute since 2005. With the support of US Department of State and donors, Marshall Legacy Institute has donated 36 Mine Detection Dogs to Azerbaijan mine clearance programme.
We would like to mention that in 2013 ANAMA MDD handler Mansur Aslanov and his dog Niko has been selected winner by US Marshall Legacy Institute.
